REGIONAL GEOCHEMICAL STUDIES AS AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR IDENTIFICATION OF NEW HIGH-RESOURCE ORE-BEARING AREAS (AS EXEMPLIFIED BY THE SIBERIAN AND FAR EASTERN FEDERAL DISTRICTS

The paper presents the results of geochemical studies of small, medium and overview scales carried out in the Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts in order to replenish a prospecting reserve. Five hundred and fourteen new anomalous geochemical fields (AGFs) ranking as ore/mineral regions and clusters have been identified, promising the discovery of economically significant deposits of highly marketable, rare, and other types of minerals. Of these, 98 AGFs lay outside the areas of current and canceled licenses. So these are classified as top-priority follow-up objects. A reserve for replenishing the list of objects of geological study of the subsoil is a part of promising AGCP located on the areas of canceled and valid licenses, but this requires an analysis of the content and results of licensed activities. The results of such an analysis are exemplified by the Russian Far East territory. The practical significance of this research lies in the forecast of the areas that are due to expand the mineral bases of the Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts.

Keywords: anomalous geochemical area, geochemical bases, high-resource areas and clusters, objects of geological studies, Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts.

EPICONTINENTAL NATURE OF THE EURASIAN BASIN AND THE GAKKEL RIDGE IN THE ARCTIC BASIN: GEOLOGICAL, GEOCHEMICAL AND MORPHOSTRUCTURAL EVIDENCES

The authors substantiate the epicontinental nature of the Eurasian Basin and the Gakkel Ridge on the basis of data from a comparative study of the rock chemistries and geochemically  reconstruced geodynamic formative settings of Late Mesozoic terrigenous rocks underlying the Barents-Kara and Amerasian basins, as well as Cenozoic basalts of the Central and North Atlantic basins. A morphostructural diagram of the continuious transition of the Gakkel Ridge into the shelf and continental margin of Siberia has been compiled. A model for the evolution of the Central Arctic Rift System has been developed. The authors classify the Gakkel Ridge as one of the underwater Arctic Basin ridges.

Keywords: geochemistry, bathymetry, terrigenous rocks, basalts, continental margin, submarine ridge, Eurasian Basin, Gakkel Ridge, Arctic Ocean.

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF INCLUSION OF THE CIRCUMPOLAR PARTS OF THE GAKKEL RIDGE INTO THE EXTENDED CONTINENTAL SHELF TERRITORY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

The paper provides information on the classification of the Gakkel Ridge in terms of Article 76 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 and its inclusion into the continental margin of Eurasia. The procedure for fixing the outer boundaries of the continental shelf by coastal states is the most important issue of modern international maritime law. The continental shelf is the maritime area under the jurisdiction of a coastal State. The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, formed in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, has the authority to fix the shelf boundary for the coastal state. The newly obtained bathymetric and geological-geophysical data demonstrated the morphological relationship of the Gakkel Ridge with the Laptev Sea continental margin, which served as the basis for revising the classification of the ridge.

Keywords: United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, outer limit of the continental shelf, Arctic Ocean, Gakkel Ridge.

ON THE ISSUE OF GEOCHEMICAL SPECIALIZATION OF GEOLOGICAL COMPLEXES

Geochemical studies should be based on modern knowledge of tectonics (geodynamics). However, the value of geochemical specialization of geological objects is questioned. The study of geochemical specialization makes it possible to carry out a spatial and temporal analysis of the features of the dispersion of chemical elements. The introduction of additional factors in the definition of geochemical specialization eliminates a number of errors. The problems associated with increasing the reliability of the geochemical specialization of geological complexes directly affect the effectiveness of prospecting and predictive estimates.

Keywords: geochemical specialization, metallogeny, chemical elements, geological complex, tectonics (geodynamics).

DETAILS AND CERTIFICATION WORKS AS A PART OF OGHR-200 AS THE MAIN SOURCE OF INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY OF FORECAST EVALUATIONS OF TERRITORIES FOR SOLID MINERALS

A necessary condition for increasing efficiency is to strengthen the role of detailing and verification work in the composition of AGWS-200. An analysis of the geochemical knowledge shows that the advanced geochemical works carried out in the 1990s and 2000s on a scale of 1:200,000, due to lack of funding, everywhere suffer from a violation of the most important principle of this type of work – verification by lithochemical surveys along secondary scattering halos (network 500×100 – 500×50 m) and search routes for all promising “flow” anomalies. In this regard, it is required to return to the previous search practice with the corresponding volumes of detailing and verification work (at least 5-10% of the sheet area).

Keywords: geochemical prospecting, stream sediments, secondary halos, detailed secondary haloes testing, fluid inclusions.

MINERAL AND RAW POTENTIAL OF HIGH-TECH METALS AND THE LEVEL OF STUDY (CATEGORY)

This paper analyzes the level of knowledge (categorization) of inferred resources (or exploration target) of “critical metals” or high-tech metals, which is an important indicator in assessing the mineral resource potential. Based on the analysis performed, it was concluded that the mineral resource base, expressed in forecast resources, makes it possible to satisfy both current and projected levels of consumption of the domestic industry.

Keywords: inferred resources, exploration target, rare metals, rare earth metals, rhenium, germanium, lithium, zirconium, titanium, mineral resource base.
