(VIMS) // vims-serper@mail.ru VIMS DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR From the first day of the World War II, the activity of VIMS was transferred to military rails. Employees were sent to mining enterprises, providing raw materials to operating factories evacuated to the east. The problem of supplying industry with coal, tin, rare metals, nickel, manganese, bauxite and other minerals was solved through well-known and new deposits in the eastern regions of the USSR. Diamond deposits were discovered, explored and successfully exploited in the Urals. Since July 1943, the conduct and coordination of research and geological prospecting for uranium raw materials has been entrusted to VIMS. The VIMS technologists and geologists worked hard to strengthen the country’s mineral and raw material base, quickly assessed the enrichment of the identified raw materials sources, developed and implemented effective schemes for its extraction and industrial processing in production. More than 200 employees of the institute were awarded government and industry awards and two Stalin Prizes for their dedicated professional work. Keywords: The Great Patriotic War, VIMS, minerals, exploration, technological research. p. 3-8 |

(Bardin Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy) // rhenium@list.ru POSITION AND PROSPECTS OF USING RARE METALS IN FERROUS METALLURGY Areas of application of rare metals in ferrous metallurgy are considered. Data on the volume of their production and consumption for the production of ferroalloys, steel and other alloys are given. It is noted that for almost all rare elements, except niobium, there is a significant decrease in their consumption for the production of steel and alloys in comparison with the times of the USSR (from 2 to 10 times). The problems of production of ferroalloys, tool, stainless, high-speed, structural steels were discussed. The issues of mineral resource base, problems of providing raw materials for the production of alloys containing rare metals are considered. The results of calculations of exports and imports of products obtained from metallurgical products with rare metals are presented. The dependence of Russia on the supply of end products with rare metals and export-oriented model of production of alloys with rare metals was revealed. Keywords: rare metals, ferroalloys, ligatures, steel, market analysis, balance of production and consumption, mineral resource base, metal concentrates, metallurgical production. p. 11-18 |

(VIMS) // likhnikevich@mail.ru THE SEQUENCE DEVELOPMENT OF RARE EARTHS AND SCANDIUM RAW SOURCES Russia occupies a leading position in terms of rare-earth metals and scandium reserves in the world. There are represented natural and anthropogenic deposits (20 deposits of rare-earth metals and 9 deposits of scandium consider in State Reserves Register); anthropogenic formations with unaccounted reserves (but significant forecast resources), as well as significant reserves of monazite concentrate. Real, potential and promising sources are selected and the sequence of their development are substantiated. Keywords: rare earth elements, scandium, natural and anthropogenic sources, sequence of development. p. 18-25 |

The similarity of geodynamic conditions of formation of Nevada and the Sakyndza area Carlin type gold deposits (CTGD) is revealed that confirms high prospects of opening the CTGD in this Arctic region of Yakutia. New ore districts with CTGD predicted throughout Chersko-Poluosninsky fold-thrust belts (Kolyma loop). The presented materials show high prospects for the discovery of a new metallogenic province of CTGD in the North-East of Russia. It is advisable to carry out mechanical activation for 4–5 hours, which is associated with increased hardness of the components of GP (rutile and anatase). The degree of extraction of the components in the sulfuric liquid phase rises to 80–85 % in TiO2. The results can be used to implement the nitric-sulfuric acid version of perovskite technology to obtain functional titanium-containing materials.
