COMPLEX RARE METAL DEPOSTS OF RUSSIA AND MAJOR LINES OF INCREASING THEIR INVESTMENT ATTRACTIVENESS

The features of Russian rare metal resource base are given in comparison with those of other counties. The present condition of Russian rare metal industry is outlirned. The leading role is shown of complex rare metal deposits in the structure of reserves and in the meeting the current and prospect needs of Russia. The features of Russian complex deposits are given. Major directions of increasing their investment attractiveness are outlined: more detailed multi-variant geological and economic reassessment of deposits explored before; complex use of raw materials; depth of processing to get rare metal products with higher added value; geological exploration at early stages with preliminary geological and economic appraisal of sites up to the stage of rare metal end-product; development and improvement of cost-efficient process schemes of getting rare metal products as by-products with processing ores of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, mining and chemical, non-metallic and anthropogenic materials; geological and economic justification of constructing centers of rare metal industry in mining areas of Russia; assessment of competitive ability of new complex rare metal deposits being involved in development and among them those included in Subprogram 15.2. The characteristics are given of alternative sources of rare metal raw material, which are solid sites easy to develop sites and for the major part are presented by monomineral ores. The role of the State in the development of complex rare metal deposits is shown.

THE TASK OF FURTHER STUDY TOMTOR ORE FIELD WITH THE PURPOSE OF INCREASING ITS ATTRACTIVENESS

Consideredсomplex rare-metal Tomtor field is unique in content of niobium, lanthanides, yttrium, scandium and it includes 3 areas: Burannyi, Northern and Southern. By forecast resources it’s one of the largest deposits of the world, but in proven reserves (apart Burannyi area) – small object with unique contents of rare metals. Tomtor field is extremely complex and requires a large amount of research in the technology of the mining and ore processing and marketing of the entire range of possible commercial products. It is recommended to conduct exploration work in Burannyi area and evaluation operations in the areas North and South. It is necessary to conduct the actual assessment of the huge potential of the Tomtor field.

Key words:сomplex Tomtor field, Burannyi, North and South areas; rare earth, niobium, yttrium, scandium, geological examination, reserves, processing technology, potential, problems for further research.

INVESTMENT APPEAL OF TOMTOR DEPOSIT AND PROSPECT OF ITS INCREASE

The investment attractiveness of the unigue Nb-TR Tomtor deposit is based. It is shown that its development even at the first stage will permit Russia to refuse from the export of niobium and rare earth metals and with account of the hole grade ore resources of the object and geopolitical interests of our country to become one of the key players of the world market of rare metals alongside with Chine and Brasilia. The proposed scientific – technical accompaniment for Tomtor exploration will allow in the nearest future to fulfill the additional investigation of the deposit and to start its exploitation. Its possible higher investment attractiveness even in the first years of exploitation is shown.

ANALYTICAL APPROACHES TO QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION OF INDIUM CONTENTS IN VMS AND TIN-SULFIDE ORES FOR REESTIMATION OF DEPOSITS IN SIBERIA AND RUSSIAN FAR EAST

High demand for indium in the world market calls for revisiting the investment prospects of VMS and tin-sulfide deposits in Siberia and Russian Far East. In this respect it is challenging to develop advanced analytical techniques for estimating low and super-low indium contents in the ores and minerals. Reliable indium determination have been performed using X-ray fluorescence analysis with synchrotron radiation (SR-XRF) to a precision of 1-10 ppm indium.

Key words: indium, pyrite-complex ore and tin-sulfide fields, analytical methods of indium determination, Siberia, Russian Far East.
