prospects<\/span> \nThe paper overviews results of the multi-year developments of VSEGINGEO concerning implementation of the problems of regional engineering geology as one of the Institute\u2019s basic activities. It is revealed that the existing scientific-methodical and theoretical developments of VSEGINGEO serve as a basis for qualitative revision of the strategy and tactics of substantiating anthropogenically induced transformations of the geological environment, which provides rational and effective use of natural resources. Creation of a new system of regional engineering-geological investigations on different scales, based on up-to-date GIS-technologies, calls forth a principally different level of providing environmental safety at all the stages of planning and implementation of anthropogenic loads. Described are the specific features of compilation of a modern engineering-geological map of Russia on a scale of 1:2500000 as an initial step in realization of this system. It is outlined that the foundations of the current investigations were the research results and methodical documents of specialists from VSEGINGEO obtained during the past years. During the past decade the following methodical documents were more specified and prepared on: – assessment of intensity and activity of hazardous exogenic geological processes (HEGP); – assessment of vulnerability of engineering objects to HEGP impacts; – organization and conducting of EGP monitoring in dangerous and potentially dangerous sites and objects; preparation of predictions of HEGP activization; assessment of a risk of HEGP-impacts upon engineering objects; compilation of maps of EGP hazard. hydrogeological regions should take into account and in a certain way reflect heterogeneity of conditions on a hydrogeological map. An initial problem was what to consider an object of zoning \u2013 groundwater or basins. The present-day investigations have shown that such an object of structural-hydrogeological zoning is the underground hydrosphere as a whole with geostructural boundaries of zoning (but not boundaries of geostructures), co-subordinated to hydrogeodynamic boundaries of the underground hydrosphere. processes have considerably changed the state of the underground hydrosphere and natural and historical processes that occur within it (i.e. formation of groundwater regime and quality). They changed the configuration and spatial boundaries of artesian basins, created inside the \u00abnatural\u00bb artesian basins the unique zones differing by properties from the surrounding ones. Analyzing the above-mentioned changes, the author states his considerations on reasonability to introduce for such zones amendments and corrections into the approaches to studying resources, quality and regime of groundwater, organization and conducting of its monitoring, as well as into analogue and mathematical models and models-predictions, used for evaluation of groundwater resources and reserves. Results of the joint investigations of the authors in the geocryologically well-studied areas of Yamal Peninsula (Marre-Sale and Bovenkovo GCM) give evidences on high prospects of using spectrozonal cosmic images both for background and object monitoring of difficultly accessible areas in the permafrost zone.
